I am an alumnus of UC Irvine with a Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences. I have tutored privately for the past 7 years, beginning with my own peers in high school classes. As a result, I have learned that every student has a unique learning style: what works great for Billy may not be as helpful for Jennifer. Perhaps more importantly, I have learned how to make unpleasant topics interesting -- or at the very least, less unpleasant. Despite majoring in Biology, Mathematics is actually my favorite subject to tutor, simply because there are many different approaches to correctly solve each problem. As a young student with a poor understanding of the basics of Mathematics, it was a subject I dreaded. I took remedial classes and attended tutoring myself. Eventually, I would discover how best to approach a problem and select an appropriate strategy. My teaching philosophy is based on the Socratic Method. I believe my questioning keeps students engaged while allowing their minds to use critical thinking but at the same time, gathering confidence in their own problem solving abilities.
